Bountiful • Crews are on the scene of a wildfire in hills east of Bountiful.

The fire is burning in an area above Summerwood Drive, between Hidden Lake Circle and City Creek Canyon. No homes or structures were threatened, according to South Davis Metro Fire Agency, but police warned residents of the Summerwood community to be ready to evacuate.

“If the winds change,” said Bountiful police Lt. Troy Killian, residents ”need to be ready to evacuate immediately.”

On Twitter, Bountiful police urged people to stay out of the area “unless you are a resident that needs to get to your home.” Crews were fighting the fire about 5:30 p.m., police said, but the “terrain is difficult.”

Crews from Salt Lake City Fire Department, the federal Bureau of Land Management and the the U.S. Forest Service were at the scene of what officials are calling the Summerwood Fire, which was reported at 4:39 p.m. It had burned about 30 acres as of 6:30 p.m., fire officials say.

A helicopter and two planes, including an air tanker, circled over the oak trees, brush and grass that were fueling the fire in the dry area while the temperature was in the high 90 degrees.
